Huge thanks to SYgigs for bringing something different to the town. All of the artists have been interesting and the acoustics in both churches have complemented their sound. I have appreciated, not just the talent and originality of the artists SY gigs have brought to us but the small details that make the experience complete. Having a bar available, selling quality wines and other drinks, toilets on site and a warm welcome all add to the enjoyment of the evening. Personally I like to take a cushion and blanket along for added comfort but that isn’t really a necessity. I look forward to attending more gigs in the future
It was a meditative experience, lovely people, unique sounds, great venue with beautiful decor
Moving healing gig
Healing
Great venue, great atmosphere. Music was amazing and an experience I won’t forget.
Atmospheric setting in the church, with Innerkey DJing the ethereal mood. Kit Grill sat at a table and pressed buttons, making sounds, often in the mode of Eno’s Music for Airports, Track 2/2 (the synth one), sometimes Nadia Struiwigh’s ‘Dreams of Rollercoasters’. Hinako Omori’s set was stunningly beautiful, sometimes achingly forlorn, romantic and joyous. Initially the audience didn’t know whether to clap, as there was a short silence between pieces. Overall, an elevating experience.
A beautiful ambient experience.
Wonderful. Human warmth and elevated/ing vibes.
Such a privilege to see such talented musicians in such an intimate space.
Great concert by very talented performers. Fantastic venue and great organisation. Well done I everyone.
really sick vibe with the smoke machine, really friendly. absolutely awesome music, great vibes, service. venue was lovely, great evening, thank you!!!
Excellent show from a world class act, Gwenifer has to be up there with the best acoustic players Ten out of ten.
Chilled and intimate venue with good acoustics, perfect for ambient/chilled music sets! Was really good to hear som**hing new and different ^^
Perfect as always
Seeming To’s music was ethereally beautiful; she has a pure voice. She reminded me a little of Laurie Anderson and Imogen Heap. Electric piano and voices, helped by her two children on drums and voice. Tengger reminded me of the bands Synesthesia, Neuronium and ’74/75 Tangerine Dream. The music evolves rather than switches gear and the pulsating rhythms are more suggestive of gentle waves lapping the shore rather than a nightclub, simple three and four notes patterns under synth strings and Itta’s haunting voice. I’ve never seen a harmonium (Indian?) played so dramatically. A magical evening of two harmonizing performances. The only negative was two toilets for about 100 people.
Enjoyable and inspiring evening, great to have quality live music so local, well done SYgigs
An absolute fabulous evening of live music! Chris deserves all the support to put on such events at such a good price point and value. If you’ve not been before you won’t be disappointed, go grab yourselves a ticket before they sell out.
My first time to an event like this. I had absolutely no idea what to expect so went with an open mind. I was not disappointed! What a wonderful way to spend an evening! Listening to beautiful, alternative song and music. ‘Mindfulness live’ is the best way I can describe ‘Voyage of the Beagle’. Thankyou for a lovely evening!
Matters Unknown gave us a very enjoyable musical evening. I loved the way they fused so many cultural influences into their playing and compositions. I think that sometimes the electrical aspect can get in the way of musicality but I they struck the right balance whereby the tracking added to the orchestral feeling in away that they couldn’t otherwise have achieved. I also enjoyed the story telling and personal aspects which , again, can sometimes get in the way but here were relevant and empowering. I felt that their music was heavily influenced by place and a desire to create a fusion which crossed traditional forms. I thought this was a bit like Tim Garland’s ‘Weather Walking’ ,although the music is quite different but both have a soaring feeling which I oved. I hope they come back and wish them every success.
SY Gigs delivered again.
A wonderful and unique evening of entertainment!
Best gig I have seen (by a country mile) in 2024
A wonderful evening of music in such a beautiful setting. Very chilled and friendly vibe. Thank you for bringing such awesome events to Shrewsbury!
Excellent mix of music; loved the venue and the performers and the whole set up. Thank you.
‘Having now processed last Saturdays gig, I think that was a moment. The sheer quality and passion on display was a wonderful sensory overload, taking multiple days to unpack the emotions it triggered. We’ve been to all but 2 of this year’s season, only missing when we were out of the country. We live near Newcastle under Lyme, and love the whole Shrewsbury experience. I wanted to say that we wouldn’t have been exposed to this rich vein of music if it wasn’t for your events. There has been some sort of rewiring of my brain and I’m increasingly tuning into the various musical branches you offer up’.
When we drove back last night, my wife told me that even though she doesn’t really listen to much music by herself usually, she really enjoyed the gig and she loved seeing Adam creating music on the go with all his instruments. It was honest, vulnerable and deeply emotional. She had a really good time at the church. It’s a testament to the important value of what you’re doing with SY.gigs, bringing something special to a growing community of people near and far and I feel blessed to be part of this community.
Absolutely wonderful evening listening to such talented musicians. The atmosphere in St. Alkmunds Church was perfect.
An excellent mix of musical styles and great use of an interesting venue.
A lovely warm welcome at Shrewsbury Unitarian Church to witness a spellbinding performance from Mary Lattimore.
Great to see and hear innovative new music in Shrewsbury. The quirky venue was perfect for this accoustic experience.
Great gig last night at the Unitarian Church in Shrewsbury. Great venue for such an intimate gig and very well organized.
A very memorable evening. It was great to hear Tiny Leaves performing with an expanded line-up in a larger venue. I enjoyed the unusual blend of instruments and the mixing of these with field recordings (shades of Jan Garbarek with the sax on the last song). Shida Shahabi’s set was sublime and very moving, and will stay with me for a long time. Beautifully subtle piano compositions played with a remarkably warm tone, accompanied by brilliantly executed glissandi from the cellist. The sound and venue was perfect, and the atmosphere was warm and friendly.
Cerys is so talented. Played 6 instruments …. and was great at giving context to the set. A brilliant concert …. diolch. Onedown side …… the venue …… the first part of the concert was really undermined by the loudly ticking clock at the back of the hall. So the quiter parts of the music was ruined. This was sorted for the second half …… but as this place is regularly used for events this seemed a real oversight by the organisers.
A fantastic evening. I know a bit about harp music but Cerys takes it up a notch. A really great programme, such variety and Cerys has a super shining presence. A marvelous talent. Diolch yn fawr Cerys and please come back soon! X
The experience of Bex’s music was innovative, fresh and engaging. A rare and open performer whose work carried heart and soul .
Great event, lovely venue, really interesting music, warm and friendly crowd. Iâd strongly recommend these events for anyone looking for some different music in the Shrewsbury area
An excellent evening, great sounds, fantastic venue.
A great evening, atmospheric and wonderful to witness such creativity.
Wonderful music from Foat and Salawu! I enjoyed the support band too. The promoter is doing great work. Only complaint was that the gap between the support act and main one was longer than it needed to be imo.
A spectacular venue and an unusal one set in the lovely market town of Shrewsbury. I’ve been a big fan of Greg Foat for quite sometime and to see him weave his musical threads live was a real pleasure. This being my first time visiting the venue, I’ll now be keeping an eye open for more opportunities to visit again. Great a night of contemporary jazz!
Great artist in a nice intimate venue
Beautiful setting for such incredible music.
excellent gig, brilliant sounds and a great audience. thanks for organising it all Chris.
Awesome evening of alternative music
